Prof Ping Tan<\/strong>\u00a0is a Professor in the Department of Electronic and Computer Engineering at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology<\/strong> (HKUST). Before joining HKUST, he served as Chief Scientist of Computer Vision at Alibaba AI Labs<\/strong> (2019-2021) and subsequently as Director of the XR Lab<\/strong> (2021-2022). His academic career includes associate professor positions at Simon Fraser University<\/strong> (2014-2019) and both assistant and associate professor roles at the National University of Singapore<\/strong> (2007-2014).<\/p>\n

Prof Tan received his PhD from HKUST<\/strong> in 2007, following the completion of his Master’s (2003) and Bachelor’s (2000) degrees at Shanghai Jiao Tong University<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

At CVPR 2025<\/strong>, Prof Tan’s research team achieved significant breakthroughs by introducing two innovative 3D generation frameworks, with all core code released as open source. Their Craftman3D<\/strong> system earned unanimous perfect scores from all three reviewers<\/strong> and has been implemented by leading industry players.<\/p>\n

He specializes in computer vision<\/strong>, computer graphics<\/strong>, and robotics<\/strong>, with a research focus on 3D vision<\/strong>. Through his pioneering research, Prof Tan continues to strengthen Hong Kong’s position at the intersection of academic excellence<\/strong> and industrial innovation<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
