Youders\u2019 Story – Mr. Albert Yiu

The recipient of Sir Edward Youde Memorial Scholarship for Undergraduate Students in 1993\/94, Executive Director of the Empire Group Holdings, Mr. Albert Yiu, experienced family turmoil in childhood, which made him understand that opportunities are to be strived for by himself. With his diligent study, he gradually became someone well-known in the architectural field. A few years ago, confronted with the sudden passing of the company\u2019s founder, he took the lead and assisted to steer the company back on track in the ripple times.
Born into a low-income family and his mother passed away when he was only six, Albert’s family struggled to make ends meet. Albert recalled his aunts\u2019 murmurs that if he failed academically, he would need to forgo the opportunity to study and work to earn a living. This urged Albert to pay special attention to his studies during his times at St. Joseph’s College. With an immense interest in drawing, even the school did not offer visual art courses back then, he self-studied with an “A” in HKCEE where he learnt about the architecture history in the Renaissance Period , paving the way to his study of Architecture at the University of Hong Kong. He picked architecture because he wanted to improve the living standard of poverty, and to design a housing which can integrate with the environment more, i.e. a passive energy design. Upon graduation with First Class Honours, he went on to study the Master degree and Post-graduate Diploma, in which he graduated with flying colours, both with distinctions.
His one-year internship after his undergraduate programme graduation is another experience to highlight. In order to gain more exposure, he decided to intern in a domestic scale architectural firm. After graduating with his Master’s degree, he first worked in a medium-sized company for about 4 years, during which he designed his first scale-project in Discovery Bay, and obtained his qualifications as a Registered Architect and Authorized Person. In 2001, due to the economic downturn, he went to work with Cheung Kong Holdings as a project manager, and participated in the entire development process of land acquisition, design and construction. In 14 years, he has mastered design and extended his expertise to project management. With an architectural training background, he was able to combine aesthetics with a balance of time-and-cost parameters. He joined Wing Tai Properties Limited after leaving Cheung Kong, by then he met his most important mentor Mr. Walter Kwok was the former chairman of Sun Hung Kai Properties (SHKP) and founder of Empire Group Holdings in 2010. He was also one of Hong Kong\u2019s most insightful business leaders, who has successfully delivered many of the city\u2019s iconic residential and commercial developments during his time in SHKP. Albert was deeply charmed and joined the Empire Group Holdings in 2016.
Albert has participated in the management and decision making of the company. He had to consider not only a single project, but also the strategic development. He was also able to learn from other tycoons in different joint-venture projects. Regrettably, in 2018, Mr. Kwok passed away suddenly without any succession arrangements, causing the company to encounter a crisis of confidence. Albert was tasked to present and comfort the banks on credit issues, and to make several successful land bids with partners, and to pose a message to the public that the company was still healthy and active despite some ripples during the transition. With his efforts and collaboration with Mr. Kwok\u2019s three children, the situation gradually stabilized. The company has acquired more lands and projects, signaling the company’s official return to the track, and the number of projects has increased from 3 to the current 13.
Looking ahead, the company will continue to develop simultaneously in residential, hospitality and commercial projects. When asked on the outlook, Albert opined that although hotel development may not be the fastest investment vehicle in term of returns (vs buy-to sell in residential development), there are intangible values that tourism is one of the pillar industries of Hong Kong, they hope to support the development of the industries through hotel investment. On the other hand, the company has highly recognized its corporate social responsibility and has committed to supporting a range of charitable projects since its founding. The Walter and Wendy Kwok Family Foundation and Kwok\u2019s Scholars, for instance, are established to provide financial support for the disadvantaged groups and students who wish to study abroad. During the pandemic, it has donated lots of anti-epidemic supplies to the NGOs, supporting the poor community to weather the storm.
Albert received the Sir Edward Youde Memorial Scholarship for Undergraduate Students in 1994, and he was blessed that the greatest impact of the scholarship on him was to boost his self-confidence. He recalled that when the school recommended him to submit the application, he doubted his self-deeming average grades, and even asked himself “can it be done”. When he was awarded with the scholarship, his question to himself was answered affirmatively. During his award period, he was preparing to make a model for his graduation thesis, and he utilized the scholarship money to make an ingenious model that stunned everyone. It has been nearly 30 years since he received the award, and Mr. Yiu is deeply grateful for the kindness of the Fund Council. Apart from charities within the company, he also serves various public roles, using his knowledge and skills to give back to the community. Lastly, he concluded with his motto: Staying hungry is always his driving force. Knowing self-requirement will make you stronger. He encouraged young people to get prepared and seize every opportunity.<\/p>\r\n
\u5c24\u5fb7\u7235\u58eb\u7d00\u5ff5\u57fa\u91d1\u672c\u79d1\u751f\u734e\u5b78\u91d11993\/94\u5e74\u5ea6\u5f97\u734e\u8005\uff0c\u5e1d\u570b\u96c6\u5718\u57f7\u884c\u8463\u4e8b\u59da\u5fd7\u5049\u5148\u751f\u81ea\u5e7c\u7d93\u6b77\u5bb6\u5ead\u7684\u8b8a\u5316\uff0c\u4f7f\u4ed6\u660e\u767d\u5230\u6a5f\u6703\u9700\u8981\u81ea\u5df1\u722d\u53d6\u7684\u3002\u4ed6\u81ea\u4fee\u7f8e\u8853\u79d1\u5176\u5f8c\u9032\u5165\u9999\u6e2f\u5927\u5b78\u5efa\u7bc9\u7cfb\uff0c\u52a0\u4e0a\u52e4\u52c9\u5730\u5b78\u7fd2\uff0c\u6162\u6162\u6210\u70ba\u5efa\u7bc9\u754c\u7684\u7ff9\u695a\u3002\u5e7e\u5e74\u524d\uff0c\u4ed6\u66f4\u5728\u516c\u53f8\u5275\u8fa6\u4eba\u7a81\u7136\u96e2\u4e16\u7684\u60c5\u6cc1\u516c\u53f8\u66fe\u9032\u5165\u4fe1\u5fc3\u5371\u6a5f\uff0c\u4ee4\u516c\u53f8\u5728\u77ed\u6642\u9593\u5167\u91cd\u4e0a\u8ecc\u9053\u3002<\/p>\r\n
\u59da\u5148\u751f\u51fa\u751f\u65bc\u8ca7\u82e6\u5bb6\u5ead\uff0c\u6bcd\u89aa\u66f4\u65bc\u4ed6\u516d\u6b72\u6642\u96e2\u4e16\uff0c\u7236\u89aa\u9700\u8981\u4e00\u517c\u4e09\u8077\uff0c\u800c\u4ed6\u548c\u59b9\u59b9\u5247\u7531\u4ed6\u7684\u5169\u4f4d\u59e8\u6bcd\u64ab\u990a\u9577\u5927\u3002\u59e8\u6bcd\u5e38\u5e38\u53ee\u56d1\u4ed6\u5011\u8981\u52aa\u529b\u5b78\u7fd2\uff0c\u8b80\u66f8\u4e0d\u6210\u7684\u8a71\u5c31\u9700\u8981\u9032\u5165\u8077\u5834\u5e6b\u88dc\u5bb6\u8a08\u3002\u9019\u4f7f\u59da\u5148\u751f\u5728\u5b78\u696d\u4e0a\u683c\u5916\u7528\u5fc3\u3002\u4ed6\u4e2d\u5b78\u5c31\u8b80\u65bc\u8056\u82e5\u745f\u66f8\u9662\uff0c\u7531\u65bc\u81ea\u5c0f\u4ed6\u559c\u611b\u756b\u756b\uff0c\u96d6\u7136\u5b78\u6821\u6c92\u6709\u7f8e\u8853\u8ab2\u7a0b\uff0c\u4ed6\u81ea\u4fee\u7f8e\u8853\u4e26\u5728\u6703\u8003\u4e2d\u8003\u7372\u201dA\u201d \u3002\u8ab2\u7a0b\u4e2d\u4ea6\u4ee4\u4ed6\u7b2c\u4e00\u6b21\u63a5\u89f8\u5230\u6587\u85dd\u5fa9\u8208\u6642\u4ee3\u5efa\u7bc9\u53f2, \u4fc3\u4f7f\u4ed6\u8ffd\u6c42\u5165\u8b80\u4f7f\u4ed6\u7372\u5f97\u9999\u6e2f\u5927\u5b78\u5efa\u7bc9\u7cfb\u7684\u5922\u60f3\u3002\u4ed6\u9078\u64c7\u4fee\u8b80\u5efa\u7bc9\u7684\u539f\u56e0\u662f\u5e0c\u671b\u81ea\u5df1\u6240\u5b78\u7684\u77e5\u8b58,\u80fd\u6539\u5584\u4f4e\u6536\u5165\u5bb6\u5ead\u4f4f\u5bbf\u554f\u984c\uff0c\u4e5f\u5e0c\u671b\u81ea\u5df1\u7684\u8a2d\u8a08\u80fd\u878d\u5408\u5929\u7136\u74b0\u5883\u7684\u5143\u7d20\u3002\u4ed6\u4ee5\u4e00\u7d1a\u69ae\u8b7d\u7684\u6210\u7e3e\u7562\u696d\uff0c\u4e4b\u5f8c\u66f4\u9032\u4e00\u6b65\u82b1\u5169\u5e74\u6642\u9593\u8b80\u53d6\u78a9\u58eb\u5b78\u4f4d\u4ee5\u53ca\u6df1\u9020\u6587\u6191\u8ab2\u7a0b\uff0c\u5169\u8005\u7686\u4ee5\u512a\u7b49\u6210\u7e3e\u7562\u696d\u3002<\/p>\r\n
\u5b78\u58eb\u7562\u696d\u6642\uff0c\u4ed6\u9700\u8981\u4e00\u5e74\u7684\u5be6\u7fd2\u7d93\u9a57\u3002\u70ba\u4e86\u63a5\u89f8\u4e0d\u540c\u7bc4\u7587\u7684\u77e5\u8b58\uff0c\u4ed6\u6c7a\u5b9a\u5230\u4e00\u5bb6\u5c0f\u578b\u7684\u5efa\u7bc9\u5247\u6a13\u5b78\u7fd2\u3002\u78a9\u58eb\u7562\u696d\u5f8c\uff0c\u4ed6\u5230\u4e00\u5bb6\u4e2d\u578b\u516c\u53f8\u5de5\u4f5c\u7d044\u5e74\uff0c\u671f\u9593\u8a2d\u8a08\u4e86\u4ed6\u7684\u7b2c\u4e00\u500b\u6109\u666f\u7063\u9109\u6751\u5f0f\u4f4f\u5b85\u9805\u76ee\uff0c\u540c\u671f\u8003\u7372\u9999\u6e2f\u5efa\u7bc9\u5e2b\u548c\u8a8d\u53ef\u4eba\u58eb\u8cc7\u6b77\u3002\u52302001\u5e74\uff0c\u7531\u65bc\u7576\u6642\u7d93\u6fdf\u8d70\u4e0b\u5761\uff0c\u4ed6\u8f49\u8077\u81f3\u9577\u6c5f\u5be6\u696d\u64d4\u4efb\u9805\u76ee\u7d93\u7406\uff0c\u4e26\u958b\u59cb\u63a5\u89f8\u5230\u571f\u5730\u8cb7\u8ce3, \u5e73\u6574\u8a2d\u8a08\u4ee5\u53ca\u552e\u6a13\u7684\u6574\u500b\u767c\u5c55\u904e\u7a0b\u300214\u5e74\u9593, \u4ed6\u5f9e\u6a13\u5b87\u8a2d\u8a08\u6210\u9577\u5230\u5230\u9805\u76ee\u7ba1\u7406\u71df\u904b\u3002\u6191\u85c9\u5efa\u7bc9\u7684\u77e5\u8b58\uff0c\u4ed6\u80fd\u5920\u5728\u7f8e\u5b78\u3001\u6642\u9593\u548c\u6210\u672c\u4e0a\u53d6\u5f97\u5e73\u8861\u3002\u96e2\u958b\u4e86\u9577\u5be6\u5f8c\uff0c\u4ed6\u8f49\u5230\u6c38\u6cf0\u5730\u7522\u8f49\u5230\u5de5\u4f5c, \u5076\u7136\u9593\u8a8d\u8b58\u4e86\u90ed\u70b3\u6e58\u5148\u751f\u3002\u90ed\u5148\u751f\u662f\u65b0\u9d3b\u57fa\u5730\u7522\u7684\u524d\u4e3b\u5e2d, \u65bc 2010 \u5e74\u5275\u7acb\u5e1d\u570b\u96c6\u5718\u3002\u90ed\u5148\u751f\u662f\u9999\u6e2f\u5177\u5f71\u97ff\u529b\u548c\u6d1e\u5bdf\u529b\u7684\u5546\u754c\u9818\u8896\uff0c\u5728\u65b0\u9d3b\u57fa\u671f\u9593\u63a8\u51fa\u591a\u500b\u9999\u6e2f\u5177\u6a19\u8a8c\u6027\u7684\u4f4f\u5b85\u548c\u5546\u696d\u958b\u767c\u9805\u76ee\u3002\u59da\u5148\u751f\u975e\u5e38\u6b23\u8cde\u90ed\u5148\u751f\u7684\u524d\u77bb\u8996\u91ce, \u4e26\u57282016\u5e74\u52a0\u5165\u5e1d\u570b\u96c6\u5718\u3002<\/p>\r\n
\u59da\u5148\u751f\u53c3\u8207\u5230\u516c\u53f8\u7684\u7ba1\u7406\u548c\u6c7a\u7b56\u3002\u4ed6\u517c\u9867\u7684\u4e0d\u53ea\u55ae\u4e00\u9805\u76ee\uff0c\u800c\u662f\u516c\u53f8\u6574\u9ad4\u65b9\u5411\u4e0a\u7684\u767c\u5c55\u3002\u4ed6\u66f4\u6709\u5e78\u5728\u4e0d\u540c\u7684\u5408\u8cc7\u9805\u76ee\u4e2d\uff0c\u5411\u5176\u4ed6\u5927\u4ea8\u5b78\u7fd2\u3002\u4e0d\u5e78\u5730 , 2018\u5e74\u7684\u4e00\u500b\u665a\u4e0a\u50b3\u4f86\u5669\u8017\uff0c\u90ed\u5148\u751f\u56e0\u75c5\u96e2\u4e16\u3002 \u7531\u65bc\u4e8b\u51fa\u7a81\u7136\uff0c\u516c\u53f8\u7d93\u71df\u4e0a\u51fa\u73fe\u4fe1\u5fc3\u5371\u6a5f\u3002\u59da\u5148\u751f\u81e8\u5371\u53d7\u547d\uff0c\u9010\u4e00\u89e3\u6c7a\u554f\u984c:\u4ed6\u5148\u5230\u8a2a\u9280\u884c\uff0c\u5411\u4ed6\u5011\u8868\u9054\u516c\u53f8\u767c\u5c55\u610f\u5411,\u4ee5\u5f37\u5316\u4ed6\u5011\u7684\u4fe1\u5fc3\uff1b\u4e26\u8207\u53cb\u597d\u767c\u5c55\u5546\u5171\u540c\u6295\u5730\uff0c\u5e0c\u671b\u5411\u5e02\u5834\u6ce8\u5165\u4e00\u500b\u6b63\u9762\u7684\u8a0a\u606f -\u516c\u53f8\u71df\u904b\u4e00\u5207\u5982\u5e38\u3002\u5728\u4ed6\u548c\u5718\u968a\u7684\u52aa\u529b\u4e0b\uff0c\u52a0\u4e0a\u90ed\u5148\u751f\u7684\u4e09\u4f4d\u5b50\u5973\u652f\u6301\u548c\u5e36\u9818\uff0c\u6162\u6162\u628a\u5c40\u9762\u7a69\u5b9a\u4e0b\u4f86\u3002\u516c\u53f8\u53c3\u8207\u7684\u9805\u76ee\u4ea6\u7531\u90ed\u5148\u751f\u751f\u524d\u76843\u500b\u589e\u52a0\u81f3\u73fe\u6642\u768413\u500b\u3002<\/p>\r\n

\u59da\u5148\u751f\u65bc1994\u5e74\u7372\u5f97\u5c24\u5fb7\u7235\u58eb\u7d00\u5ff5\u57fa\u91d1\u672c\u79d1\u751f\u734e\u5b78\u91d1\uff0c\u4ed6\u6307\u51fa\u734e\u5b78\u91d1\u5c0d\u4ed6\u6700\u5927\u7684\u5f71\u97ff\u662f\u589e\u5f37\u4e86\u4ed6\u7684\u81ea\u4fe1\u5fc3\u3002\u4ed6\u61b6\u8ff0\uff0c\u7576\u6821\u65b9\u63a8\u85a6\u4ed6\u53bb\u7533\u8acb\u6642\uff0c\u4ed6\u81ea\u554f\u6210\u7e3e\u7b97\u4e0d\u4e0a\u512a\u79c0\uff0c\u66f4\u53cd\u554f\u81ea\u5df1\u300c\u771f\u7684\u53ef\u4ee5\u55ce?\u300d\u3002\u7576\u4ed6\u7372\u9812\u734e\u5b78\u91d1\uff0c\u9019\u4f7f\u5230\u4ed6\u8a8d\u53ef\u81ea\u5df1\u7684\u80fd\u529b\u3002\u800c\u5728\u4ed6\u7372\u734e\u671f\u9593\u6b63\u503c\u662f\u4ed6\u6e96\u5099\u88fd\u4f5c\u7562\u696d\u8ad6\u6587\u7684\u6a21\u578b\uff0c\u4ed6\u6b63\u6b63\u7528\u4e86\u734e\u5b78\u91d1\u7684\u91d1\u9322\u88fd\u4f5c\u51fa\u4e00\u500b\u5225\u51fa\u5fc3\u88c1\u7684\u6a21\u578b\uff0c\u6240\u6709\u4eba\u70ba\u4e4b\u8b9a\u5606\u3002\u7372\u734e\u63a5\u8fd130\u5e74\uff0c\u59da\u5148\u751f\u6df1\u6df1\u611f\u6fc0\u7576\u5e74\u57fa\u91d1\u6703\u7684\u77e5\u9047\u4e4b\u6069\u3002\u9664\u4e86\u516c\u53f8\u5167\u7684\u6148\u5584\u6a5f\u69cb\uff0c\u4ed6\u4ea6\u5728\u4e00\u4e9b\u5b78\u6703\u64d4\u4efb\u5e79\u4e8b\uff0c\u5229\u7528\u81ea\u5df1\u7684\u77e5\u8b58\u548c\u6280\u80fd\u56de\u994b\u793e\u6703\u3002\u6700\u5f8c,\u4ed6\u52c9\u52f5\u5927\u5bb6,\u505a\u4efb\u4f55\u4e8b\u4e5f\u8981\u5c0d\u81ea\u5df1\u6709\u8981\u6c42\uff0c\u505a\u597d\u6e96\u5099\uff0c\u6293\u7dca\u6bcf\u4e00\u500b\u6a5f\u9047\u3002<\/p>\r\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
