Mr. Paul Shieh, SC

Sir Edward Youde Memorial Fellowships for Overseas Studies 1988/89

Mr Paul Shieh SC studied Law at the University of Cambridge and obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1987.  He obtained the Postgraduate Certificate in Laws from the University of Hong Kong in 1988 and was called to the Hong Kong Bar in the same year.  He then received the Sir Edward Youde Memorial Fellowship for Overseas Studies to study at the University of Oxford, where he obtained his Bachelor of Civil Law degree in 1989.   He commenced full practice as a barrister in Hong Kong in 1990 and was appointed Senior Counsel in 2003.  He is now the head of Temple Chambers. He is and was involved in different areas of public service.  He is currently Chairman of the Appeal Reviews Committee of the Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority, Deputy Chairman of the Telecommunications (Competition Provisions) Appeal Board, member of the Securities and Futures Commission Disciplinary Chair Committee and member of the Financial Reporting Review Panel under the Financial Reporting Council.   In the past he has served as the Chairman of the Hong Kong Bar Association from 2013 to 2015, a member of the Law Reform Commission, a member of the Judicial Officers Recommendation Commission and Recorder of the Court of First Instance of the High Court of Hong Kong. 

Prof. Mee Kam Ng

Sir Edward Youde Memorial Fellowships for Overseas Studies 1988/89

Professor Mee Kam Ng is Vice-chairman of the Department of Geography and Resource Management, the Director of the Urban Studies Programme, Associate Director of the Institute of Future Cities at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. She is a member of the Royal Town Planning Institute, a fellow of the Hong Kong Institute of Planners (HKIP) and academic advisor of the Hong Kong Institute of Urban Design. She was elected as a Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences in the United Kingdom in 2016. She has completed over 30 research projects and published widely on planning, governance and sustainability issues in Pacific Asia. Her publications have earned her six HKIP Awards and the 2015 Association of European Schools of Planning Best Published Paper Award. The Urban Studies Programme she directed is an Associate Member of the UN-Habitat’s World Urban Campaign, promoting the implementation of the New Urban Agenda.

Mr. Nelson Yip, MH

Sir Edward Youde Memorial Awards for Disabled Students 1988/89

Mr. Nelson Yip acquired his Bachelor of Science from the Chinese University of Hong Kong and Master of Arts and Business Administration afterwards. He founded the “Unleash Foundation”, a social organisation that creates social impacts through face-to-face educational talks, seminars and community projects. He is the Founding Chief Executive Officer and Director of EP Venture Co. Ltd, who provides business strategic consulting and coaching.  Apart from his work, he is interested in horse riding and he was the first qualified representative of Hong Kong Paralympics Equestrian Competition in 2008.

Mr. Edmund Cham

Sir Edward Youde Memorial Scholarships for Undergraduate Students 1989/90

Mr. Edmund Cham was admitted as a solicitor in 1993 and worked as such until 1996. He has been working in the legal publishing field for more than 20 years and doing legal translation work since 1998. Edmund is currently working as a freelance editor for legal publisher Sweet & Maxwell. He is also the founder and director of a private company providing legal and financial translation services, including authorized vetter of translations of court judgments of the Court of Final Appeal and lower courts. He is Adjunct Associate Professor at HKU Law Faculty, being in charge of “Use of Chinese in Law” courses for LL.B. and P.C.LL. students. He is conducting regular translation courses for magistrates and District Court judges and court interpreters.
Edmund studied at St Paul’s Co-educational College (SPCC), and obtained LL.B. in 1990 and P.C.LL. In 1991 from the University of Hong Kong (HKU). He was awarded a number of scholarships and prizes both at SPCC and at HKU, including: Sir Robert Kotewall Scholarships for the Best English and Chinese Scholar (1986 & 1987), Sir Edward Youde Memorial Scholarships (1988-89 & 1989-90), Sir Man Kam Lo Jardine Scholarships (1988 & 1989), Johnson Stokes & Master Scholarship (1989) and Deacons Prize in Law (1990). He has diverse interests and hobbies include playing the piano (has given piano recitals and concerts since 1994), playing badminton, building Lego models.

Mr. Richard Chung

Sir Edward Youde Memorial Scholarships for Undergraduate Students 1992/93

Mr. Richard CHUNG obtained a bachelor degree in business administration from the Chinese University of Hong Kong in December 1995. He was awarded Sir Edward Youde Memorial Scholarship in 1992 and is a fellow member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountant since July 2001.

Mr. Richard Chung is the chairman and an executive Director of INNOVAX HOLDINGS LIMITED. Mr. Chung is also a director of Innovax Capital, Innovax Securities and Innovax Asset Management. He has acted as a responsible officer of Innovax Capital for Type 1 (dealing in securities) regulated activity since 2015. Mr. Chung is primarily responsible for overall strategic planning and overseeing the general management of the Group and overall supervision and management of the Group’s placing and underwriting business. Mr. Chung possesses over 20 years of experience in financial services, accounting and management as well as investment consultancy.

Ms. Florence Chan

Sir Edward Youde Memorial Scholarships for Undergraduate Students 1996/97

Ms. Florence Chan is a practicing architect with special interests on tall building design. She received her Bachelor of Social Science (Architectural Studies) from the Chinese University of Hong Kong and Master in Architecture from Harvard University Graduate School of Design. Ms. Chan is a licensed architect in Hong Kong and the US. She is a Director of the architectural firm Kohn Pedersen Fox and Associates PC and an Adjunct Assistant Professor of the School of Architecture at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. She is a Board Member of Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat Hong Kong Chapter, a non-profit organization based in Chicago that promotes knowledge on tall building design. 

Dr. Gary Ng

Sir Edward Youde Memorial Fellowship / Scholarship for Disabled Students 2000/01

Dr. Gary Ng acquired his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery and the Master of Science in Health Services Management from the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Gary is now working in the Patient Safety and Risk Management Department in the Hospital Authority Head Office after 10 years of Orthopaedics clinical services at public hospital.
His past experience of being a bone cancer patient at 14 years of age and the sufferings from the chemotherapy and amputation surgery motivates him to serve for the patients and the needy. He is now the Chairperson of the Hong Kong Federation of Handicapped Youth (HKFHY) and also the Board of Directors in Hong Kong Society for Rehabilitation (HKSR). His endeavor and perseverance was recognized by a number of awards including the Hong Kong Regenerated Life Strugglers 96, the Outstanding Disabled Persons Award 2002, CUHK Convocation Outstanding Community Service Award 2005, Outstanding Athlete Award in Swimming 2001-2002.

Mr. Vivek Mahbubani

Sir Edward Youde Memorial Scholarships for Undergraduate Students 2004/05

Vivek Mahbubani is a Hong Kong-bred bilingual stand-up comedian performing in both Cantonese and English.
Having been crowned the Funniest Person (in Chinese) in Hong Kong in 2007 followed by his victory in the English category at the Hong Kong International Comedy Competition in 2008, Vivek has had the opportunity to take his sense of humor all over the world including Hong Kong, China, Macau, Singapore, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand, Sri Lanka, India, Australia, Canada and USA.
Having been ranked as the top comedian in Hong Kong, in 2014, the World Famous Laugh Factory in USA ranked Vivek as one of the top 10 comedians in their Annual Funniest Person in the World Competition.
In 2015, he was handpicked as one of the comedians to represent Asia’s best in Melbourne International Comedy Festival’s inaugural “Comedy Zone Asia” shows.
In 2016, he was featured in Comedy Central’s first ever “Stand up Asia!” shows. One of Vivek’s passions is reading and his favorite book is Sun Tzu’s Art of War. Oddly, his favorite color is hot pink.

Dr. Paul Luk

Sir Edward Youde Memorial Fellowships for Overseas Studies 2007/08

Dr. Paul Luk is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Economics of Hong Kong Baptist University. After finishing his undergraduate degree at the University of Hong Kong, Paul received the Sir Edward Youde Memorial Overseas Fellowship in 2007 and pursued the Master of Philosophy and the Doctor of Philosophy in Economics at Oxford University. Prior to his current position, Paul has worked at the International Monetary Fund and the Hong Kong Monetary Authority. Paul has a wide range of interests and hobbies, including classical music, hiking, movies and the Japanese chess called shogi.

Dr. Emily Wong

Sir Edward Youde Memorial Scholarships for Undergraduate Students 2011/12

Dr. Emily Wong graduated from the Chinese University of Hong Kong with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery degree. She is now a specialist in ophthalmology working at the Hong Kong Eye Hospital and a Honorary Clinical Tutor at the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Science of the Chinese University of Hong Kong. She participates actively in research, public health activities and international conferences. Emily has diverse interests and hobbies, such as hiking, playing the violin, kayaking, swimming, photography and scuba diving.
