Mr. Edmund Cham
Sir Edward Youde Memorial Scholarships for Undergraduate Students 1989/90

Mr. Edmund Cham was admitted as a solicitor in 1993 and worked as such until 1996. He has been working in the legal publishing field for more than 20 years and doing legal translation work since 1998. Edmund is currently working as a freelance editor for legal publisher Sweet & Maxwell. He is also the founder and director of a private company providing legal and financial translation services, including authorized vetter of translations of court judgments of the Court of Final Appeal and lower courts. He is Adjunct Associate Professor at HKU Law Faculty, being in charge of “Use of Chinese in Law” courses for LL.B. and P.C.LL. students. He is conducting regular translation courses for magistrates and District Court judges and court interpreters.

Edmund studied at St Paul’s Co-educational College (SPCC), and obtained LL.B. in 1990 and P.C.LL. In 1991 from the University of Hong Kong (HKU). He was awarded a number of scholarships and prizes both at SPCC and at HKU, including: Sir Robert Kotewall Scholarships for the Best English and Chinese Scholar (1986 & 1987), Sir Edward Youde Memorial Scholarships (1988-89 & 1989-90), Sir Man Kam Lo Jardine Scholarships (1988 & 1989), Johnson Stokes & Master Scholarship (1989) and Deacons Prize in Law (1990). He has diverse interests and hobbies include playing the piano (has given piano recitals and concerts since 1994), playing badminton, building Lego models.
